Launching a newsroom is partly a statement of intent. Ours is simple: report carefully on what is happening across New Zealand, take regional life as seriously as national headlines, and write in plain language that respects the reader's time.

In the months ahead we'll be building out our coverage of regional economies, housing and infrastructure, agriculture and food systems, local government, and the parts of business life that don't always fit into the daily market story. We'll add more weather, sport, travel and food coverage as the team grows.

We're also planning a steady programme of explainers — the kind of pieces you can send to a friend who has missed a beat for a while and wants to catch up without wading through twenty news alerts.

If there is a story or a place you think deserves more attention, our inbox is open. That input genuinely shapes what we work on.
